Juddville School Museum

The first year on his new land (there were no roads) he built a log cabin and cleared 10 acres for farming. The following year he cleared another 14 acres and planted wheat. A school house was built and John’s daughter was hired as the first teacher. In 1877 a blacksmith opened up a shop and a saw mill was built. In 1879 a post office and a general store came to the burg along with a Dr. C. J. Annis and a shoe store. The Grangers Hall and the Methodist Episcopal Church was also located in the burg. By 1881 the burg had become a village and added a creamery and a second church. One historical account stated that the village at one time even had a coal mine though we have not been able to find an address for this. Juddville at its peak had close to 175 people in it. The school that sits on the corner of Juddville Rd and N. Durand Rd. was built in 1903 and served the community until the early 1960s when it was forced to close because of annexation requirements. A saloon even was located for a brief time in Juddville until the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was able to get it to be closed.
