Old Sebewaing Township Hall

The Sebewaing Township Hall was built in 1877 and originally the building was used for many things: court/jury trials, Methodist, Episcopal, Moravian church services, a jail with 2 cells, Charlie Tredup's police office, and a voting place. One side housed a fire engine, meetings, Arbeiter Society, English Baptist congregation, and Tuesday night practice for the Sebewaing Band. In later years Immanuel Church held a rummage sale there. Boy and Girl Scout troops held meetings on the main floor and Jaycee and Jaycettes held meetings on the second floor.

A new Sebewaing Area Historical Society was formed July 29, 2005. The first official meeting was August 11, 2005 and all donated items were claimed. The new group immediately began to do major cleaning of the building, upstairs and down. With the help of men from Huron County Work Release Program, major painting inside and out was completed. Eight new windows were installed on the first floor, new porch floor and railings were installed, grass and stone placed on the south side of the building.

Since 2005, many upgrades and remodeling projects made the building habitable for visiting on weekends May thru October of each year. Displays were arranged in the building as they were donated. In 2006 the society entertained all Huron County historical societies.
